The opening of the Louvre-Lens museum took place on 12 December. The local authorities, that aim to turn it into a key for the regeneration of the grim region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, expect 500,000 visitors a year.

The Japanese agency SANAA (Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa), recipient of the 2004 Pritzker Prize, was commissioned for the architecture of the project. The architects have opted for a vast, glass and metal structure. Its apparent simplicity actually features geometric shapes and sophisticated lines, materials and details.

A must-see!
